The result of the steelmakers–Brown Thursday night’s game wasn’t in much doubt at the end of the game as Cleveland emerged victorious, but the outcome of the final play still mattered to many people.
Pittsburgh had the ball deep in their own territory for six with nine seconds left in the game, so for their final play they called in a sideline to try and pull off a miraculous victory. It didn’t go as planned, as the Steelers eventually fumbled on their own goal line, prompting the Browns to recover the ball in their own end zone for a defensive touchdown.
Normally, that play will only matter to fantasy football players who have the Browns defense on their team. However, the over for this game was set at 40.5 at many sportsbooks, so the final touchdown also clinched the game’s over.
The two teams combined for 27 points in the first half, making it look like the over was coming. However, a lower scoring second half kept the score in check for the bass to hit.
That was until the Steelers’ last play went so wrong that it pushed the scoreboard over the official line, breaking the hearts of lower bettors everywhere and rescuing the higher bettors.
