Leeds Rhinos and Leyland Warriors face off this Sunday to decide the winner of the Betfred 2021 Wheelchair Super League.
Sunday’s final, the first Wheelchair Rugby League Lancashire / Yorkshire Grand Final and the first to be streamed live on Sky Sports, will see reigning champions Leeds Rhinos aim for a league / cup double afterwards. from last month’s Betfred Challenge Cup win over Halifax Panthers.
The Rhinos suffered major disappointment in the Grand Final at the hands of the Panthers at Gillingham’s Medway Park Sports Center in 2019, and the Leyland Warriors will expect the lightning bolts to strike twice for the Rhinos when the sides line up in the same spot at 3.15 pm on Sunday.
Undefeated in 2021, Leeds includes several players who represented England against Wales earlier this season: Josh Butler, Nathan Collins, Tom Halliwell and James Simpson. The Warriors’ Adam Rigby made his England debut in the same game, but has been on the losing side more than once against his England teammates this season.
“We have played Leeds several times this season and have improved each time,” said Adam Rigby of Leyland Warriors.
“Last time we were winning until the last 10 minutes. The preparation has been difficult for the last two weeks for all kinds of reasons, but we will travel with a stronger team and we will give everything we have.”

“Leeds are a good team, very structured and deservedly already won the Challenge Cup and League Leaders award. We are well organized. Phil Roberts may not be as fast as him, but he gives us excellent direction in the middle. Then we have people like Martin Norris and Declan Roberts who are more than capable of pulling something out of the hat. “
Leeds Rhinos’ Nathan Collins added: “We have beaten Leyland a few times this season, but they are a very good team and we won’t take them for granted. I saw them beat a very good Argonauts team in the semi final, and they have a strong one. mix of internationals past and present.
“However, we are confident in our own ability. We will train hard this week, fine-tune some things and make sure we are ready for Sunday.”
