Washington defensive end Chase Young came under fire for mistreating Giants quarterback Daniel Jones in the first quarter of the teams’ “Thursday Night Football” game at FedExField. And boy, did Twitter upset.
While NFL Network commentator Troy Aikman agreed that the play was a penalty (Young landed on Jones with his body weight), several people on social media felt otherwise, including the former NFL offensive lineman. Geoff Schwartz:
These rough punishments to passers must stop. They are so soft.

Savid Deen, who covers the Dolphins for the South Florida Sun Sentinel, also commented negatively, as did CBS Sports NFL senior writer Will Brinson:
Hitting the passer becomes a touchdown for the Giants. I also saw that during the Dolphins-Pats game.
We need a rule change.

Another absolute garbage in the call of the passers where the officials are trying to determine the intention with a flag.

More comments from the Twitter community:
That rude passer call on Chase Young just goes to show what kind of game soccer is turning into.

There is rudeness that the calls of the pins are so soft. Either let him go in full force, or put flags on the quarterback and make them untouchable.

I love how Troy Aikman says “yeah, it’s definitely a shame” and all of Twitter is screaming at the top of their lungs how weak and terrible that call was. #TNF

Despite his penalty, Young had two tackles and a half sack after the first quarter. The Giants led 10-7 at the end of the first half.
