Ryan Reynolds says Hugh Jackman is Wolverine in ‘Deadpool 3’

It’s finally happening: Old friends Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are reuniting on screen for “Deadpool 3.”

Reynolds announced Tuesday on social media that Jackman will return as Wolverine for the highly anticipated Marvel movie, which hits theaters on September 6, 2024.

“We’ve been working very hard on the next ‘Deadpool’ movie for a long time,” Reynolds said. in a video for the fans. “I’ve really had to search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special.

“We need to stay true to the character, find new depth, motivation, meaning. Every ‘Deadpool’ needs to stand out and stand out. It has been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach deep inside, and I… I have nothing. He’s completely empty up here and it’s terrifying.”

Enter Jackman, who casually walks into frame and munches on an apple, not looking at Reynolds or the camera, as the “Free Guy” star continues, “But we had an idea.”

“Hello Hugh,” he says. “Do you want to play Wolverine one more time?”

“Yes,” Jackman replies. “Sure, Ryan.”

Reynolds’ announcement comes about five years after Jackman last played Wolverine in “Logan” and reportedly retired from playing the character. Although the Australian actor hasn’t officially appeared in any “Deadpool” movies before, the image of him is somewhat of a running gag in the franchise.

On and off screen, Reynolds and Jackman have been involved in a mock rivalry dating back to 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” which features a fight sequence between their two characters. It should be noted that “Deadpool 3” will be the first film in the saga distributed by Disney through 20th Century Studios, which was previously owned by Fox.

“Hard to keep my mouth shut on this one,” Reynolds captioned Jackman’s casting announcement, which racked up more than a million likes on Twitter and Instagram in less than two hours.

Jackman also shared the video with the caption “Yeah right.”
