AEW Dark: Elevation commentator Paul Wight, formerly known as The Big Show in WWE, explained how AEW works differently compared to WWE.
The Big Show is a professional wrestling legend and his switch to AEW was a genuine surprise, as most believed he was never going to jump ship. After signing with AEW, he was called Paul Wight again, his name in WCW and in the early days of WWE.
Paul Wight was interviewed by Adam Glyn at an airport and answered a ton of questions, including what differentiated AEW from WWE. The world’s greatest athlete cited WWE’s creative dominance as a major point of difference. He said:
“I think both products are amazing, I think they are just different products. I think WWE will always be the sports entertainment show, the global brand that they have worked so hard to be and AEW is more of a true wrestling product. You know, there are not 15-20 writers behind the scenes in AEW. If you have a promotion, you have a promotion, if you have a match, you have a match. There’s not much top-level handling of what they want during the match and what they want. they are trying to present because of the intellectual property they own. “
Paul Wight has much more freedom in AEW compared to The Big Show in WWE
Paul Wight stated that AEW allowed him much more freedom compared to his time in WWE when there was a committee to do something.
“Even for me, I’m doing Paul Wight now, but I’ve never had as much freedom as now with AEW to do other things. Before, when I was in WWE as Big Show, there is a committee to do something and that’s okay, that’s their The brand, the way they built it and they compensated me well for it, but I think at this stage of the game it’s a much more fun environment, “said Paul Wight.
The Big Show lost to Randy Orton on WWE RAW in his last appearance for the company. Although he joined AEW many months ago, he made his in-ring debut at All Out 2021 and defeated QT Marshall.
