The sequel to Nothing’s Ear 1 might make you nervous. Called the Nothing Ear Stick, these earphones feature a long charging case and debuted on Chet Lo’s SS23 runway. According to Nothing, the Ear Stick is inspired by cosmetic packaging: it looks vaguely like a tube of lipstick.
While the Ear Stick’s design is clearly an aesthetic choice, it should have some tangible benefits. Similar headphone cases, like the one for Creative Outlier Air, offer surprisingly long battery life. They are also easy to find in a bag or case. (Nothing claims that the long charging case is easier to carry in your pocket, contrary to my experience with similar products.)
If customers can get past the weird name (and marketing), then the Ear Stick may be a successful product. The Ear 1 was surprisingly popular, scoring an 8/10 in our detailed review. That said, the Ear 1 sells for quite a competitive price and introduced the novelty of a clear plastic design.
We do not have any pictures of the Ear Stick headphones. The photos shared by Nothing only show the Ear Stick charging case, no earphones. There’s no point in guessing what the earphones will look like, although they may be larger than the Ear 1 to increase battery life.
Nothing will reveal more details about the Ear Stick later this year. We mainly expect improvements to the transparency mode, which is a weak point of the original Ear 1.
