Roommates, we send our condolences to the loved ones of Kenyan long-distance runner Agnes Tirop. Unfortunately, she was stabbed to death while at her home, and the police are now looking for her husband, who they say is a suspect.
According to CNNTom Makori, the northern Keiyo sub-county police commander, said that when police arrived at her home on Wednesday, “they found her on the bed with blood under the bed and a lot of blood on the floor.” He continued: “When the police looked at the body, it appeared that she had been stabbed in the neck with what we suspect was a knife.”
Police have named Agnes’ husband, Emmanuel Rotich, as a suspect and said he called his parents saying he “did something wrong.” Makori added, “So we think he knows what happened.”
Agnes competed during the Tokyo Olympics this year and finished fourth in the 5000m event, and in September, she broke the world record in a women-only 10km event. Throughout her career, she became a bronze, gold, and silver medalist winning runner.
World Athletics President Sebastian Coe spoke about Agnes’s passing, saying: “Agnes Jebet Tirop, world cross country champion at just 19 years old, burst onto the world stage in 2015 and has been one of the best distance runners. the world for the past six years. This is a terrible blow to the entire athletics community, but especially to his family, friends and Athletics Kenya and I send them our deepest condolences. “
