The absences of Kawhi Leonard and Chris Paul loom as the Clippers and Suns look to keep their championship hopes alive.
In Game 1 of the Western Conference finals, Devin Booker made sure Phoenix didn’t back down without Paul, leading the Suns to a 120-114 victory with a triple-double of 40 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists. Paul George (34 points, five assists, four rebounds) and Reggie Jackson (24 points, six rebounds, four assists) took a step forward with Leonard out, but couldn’t get the Clippers to the finish line.

Both All-Stars have not been ruled out for the NBA playoffs, so when will they return to the court?
Here are the latest updates on Leonard and Paul ahead of Game 2 on Tuesday.
Will Kawhi Leonard play the Suns?
Leonard is listed on the official Game 2 injury report. The Clippers forward has not played since he sprained his right knee in Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals.
During an appearance on NBA TV, Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes reported that Leonard has been rehabbing in Los Angeles and that the team is treating his injury as a “day-to-day situation.”
Through 11 postseason games, Leonard is averaging 30.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.1 steals while shooting 57.3 percent from the field and 39.3 percent from 3s.
Will Chris Paul play the Clippers?
Paul is also listed as an out for Game 2. The Suns point guard is currently under quarantine in Los Angeles after testing positive for COVID-19 last week, but has no symptoms, according to Haynes.
“They are very excited about the way he’s going through this protocol,” Haynes said. “That said, they are not rushing anything … The Suns still don’t have an update on when it will be available, the protocol is a bit complicated, but they are hopeful that it will be relatively soon.”
Through 10 postseason games, Paul is averaging 15.7 points, 8.7 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals while shooting 50.9 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from 3s.
