Azure Quantum drives improvements in data warehousing

As organizations continue to struggle to maximize storage utilization and optimize analysis of massive amounts of data, Microsoft is increasing its focus on the “high promise of quantum technology,” Daniel Stocker, technology program manager, told VentureBeat. Azure Quantum.

With those data sizes growing and increasing complexity, Azure Quantum created a QIO solution for Azure Storage that is designed to keep the load on storage clusters uniform while reducing the amount of data that must be moved.

Azure Quantum has supported the Azure Storage team this year with an optimization solution inspired by quantum technology, according to Microsoft. Stocker said “quantum-inspired” refers to running quantum algorithms on classical systems, while allowing developers to be prepared for further acceleration when “scaled quantum hardware is available at scale.” We haven’t gotten to that point yet, ”he said.

Move data intelligently

The quantum solution has helped the Azure storage team increase capacity, efficiency, and predictability, helping customers get high-quality service from Azure Storage. “We optimize every move we make and we do it wisely,” Stocker said.

Stocker said Azure offerings are available for quantum-inspired and quantum hardware systems on a pay-as-you-go model. Developers can use Python or Microsoft Q #, Microsoft’s open source language for developing quantum algorithms. Python is the language of choice for the development of quantum algorithms, while Q #, Stocker, said that “it will be a long-term future proof of Azure Storage. “

Microsoft singles out three customers that it says have seen significant results from Azure Quantum.

  • Trimble It uses Azure Quantum to find the most efficient routes for a fleet of vehicles, seeking to ensure there are fewer empty trucks and maximizing its operational load for each trip.
  • OTI Lumionics is accelerating material design with quantum-inspired optimization solutions designed to simulate organic materials used in OLED displays for next-generation consumer electronics design.
  • ford partnered with Azure Quantum to create a QIO-based traffic optimization solution that is designed to reduce both traffic congestion and travel time by offering optimized routing to thousands of drivers simultaneously. Preliminary studies show a more than 70 percent decrease in congestion, as well as an 8 percent reduction in average travel time, according to the automaker.
